This is not a palm. It grows slowly to around 20 feet or so.
It has long large flower spikes.

Yes, the name is very misleading like many other common names...such as: Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta), Madagascan Palm (Pachypodium lamieri)
Ponytail Palm (Beaucarnea recurvata) and the list goes on...
This species is native to Australia and widely grown here in California.
It's a Xeriscape tree.
