they can seem rather stubborn, Janey. but a good east window will do it everytime. (that and my secret weapon) shhhhh! Shultz's Instant ..four drops to a litre of water...(don't know if it's sold in UK, but it's great stuff if you can get some)

Great have put mine on my kitchen windowsill...east facing....so fingers crossed! Haven't heard of the Shultz's Instant but will Google it and see.

I let it go into the dry side, seems to give it enough winter to start up. But mine live in the east window.
