Snowflakes are so light and airy, but accumulate so heavily on the plants...amazing...oops!...there's that wee bit of red again...

Is it normal for you to have snow this early ?

Hello everyone!... yes Janey...they will spring back...I went out and knocked all the icy snow off yesterday...and they're looking better...but I lost the upper branches of the viburnum trilobum.. sniff sniff...
Do you have snow at any time in your part of Arizona GG?
We had so much rain just hours before the temps dropped. It was a sprinkle of snow over frozen rain...very heavy... some of the larger trees lost whole limbs, Skippy!
THis is early, yes, Hywel... the winter cold usually hits us late in Nov. and winter is in full swing for Christmas. We always have a white Christmas. I can remember very few green Christmases, anyway.

I only remember one white Christmas, and even then it had all melted by Boxing Day.
If we have snow it's usually any time from Jan to April, but it never lasts long.
Once I remember not being able to bring the car out for a week. That's unusual here.

Freezing rain is one of the worst. Sorry to hear about the viburnum. Might have a chance to melt back before the real winter sounds like by your timeline. at least no more frozen rain. :-)

Gosh! Already?! So sorry for your poor Viburnum Lori. We are lucky to get any snow and if we do it doesn't last. Like Hywel (Blodyn) I can remember lots of snow as a kid but not anymore. My kids are lucky to find enough for a snowball fight.

I suppose a change from the rain would be welcome in Wales, but take it from me, Jess and Hywel, you don't want this stuff!! As GT says "freezing rain is the worst"... but lucky for us this episode was very early. We've had a couple of weeks of wonderful balmy weather since...but tonight it is a full moon with clear skies and it's getting very nippy...there will be ice on the pond tomorrow morn.... I experienced a similar climate to yours for one winter waaaay back in 1969-70...the lower mainland of British Columbia is a moderate marine climate... There was snow for two days the week before Christmas...and on February 20th it was 70 degrees!!! Back in Ontario the snow was two feet deep!! LOL... After worrying about winter kill...it would be refreshing to have a winter like that!

~I can handle dry and cold but constant rain and wind is a nightmare! everywhere in the woods is really thick sticky mud which creates just the right conditions for falling on your derriere!

LOL....I can just imagine that... I have a large dog, who sometimes decides to do a 180 degree turn, (when I'm not looking, usually) SPLAT!!

~Commiserations Lori! Dogs are so much better balanced than we are in tricky situations!~they usually come up to me as if to say<what are you doing down there?> and give me a lick!
Total humiliation however going home with thick mud on your rear!~

Wow ,I have chills running up my arms from looking at this pic..... I'm just not ready for this stuff yet ..!! I want my springtime back !

It was a balmy 68 degrees today, Flcrazy!! I'm just thankful for all the warmth we can get...(bad memories of last March/April) the viburnum was trimmed whether I wanted it or not! the ice was so heavy and I think the tree was still full of sap.(it still has green leaves and fruit on it)..the freezing cold made branches snap... I'm hoping it can survive the serious cold that is to come.

Oooooh! Lori! I've just seen your SNOW and it looks horrible - I hate snow, so I don't think I'd be able to live next door to you...I hope all your shrubs and plants came through safely.

It's pretty at times but that's all I can say for it, Spritz. believe it or not there are snapdragons out there still green although the blossoms have dropped!
winter is a very unkind season...poor little plant babies!
