Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina

My husband took a trip up the hill to visit family a few weeks ago. He took his four wheeler and my camera. He went riding up to the top of his uncle's property and took a few pictures for us. This one is my favorite and it's our new desk top too !

Can see why - such a nice composition captures all the different hues so well.

My mother was raised in West Virginia and talked about the mountains and how pretty they were...could this be some thing like what she talked about? It is such a beautiful shot..your husband did a great job.

Yes Catfinch, they sure are ! The Appalachian mountain range runs through several east coast states, from Alabama to Maine. The Blue Ridge Park Way,a government built road for the nation's park system, that runs through North Carolina to Virginia is a large tourist attraction, I believe the road is 467 miles long, that runs through some of the most beautiful country you would ever want to see.

Wonderful... I am so glad to see these shots from you...I have always wanted to go back east to see the places she talked about and i still have distant realtives there too...just have not made it.

Been to Mount Washington Vermont is this part of the Appalachians Fl ?

Yes Bonkers, it is ! Glad to hear you've been here to see part of them ! Each state has their own names for the mountain range in their state, but they are all in the Appalachian mountain range chain. Mount Washington, where you were, is in the White Mountains, North Carolina is the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Catfinch, I believe West Virginia is the Allegheny Mountains.

I loved it of course cant say saw much of US but then probably many US citizens dont know the beauty of their own country. Not a city person at all no appeal visiting New York but amazed how rural new York state is .

Such a pleasure to go to a country where nothing too much trouble for the customer - your supermarkets amazing ! There was I packing my groceries the guy said hey thats my job go and get your car - what says I ? he said I pack your groceries you get your car and I put them in the trunk for you ! Imagine that in the UK !

We drove through New York state on our way to Niagra Falls Canada, and I have to admit I was very amazed at how rural it was too. I didn't know , and I live over here...lol.
You gotta love the grocery store baggers, worth their weight in gold on a cold rainy day !

We have the grocery store baggers...and they always offer to take the groceries to the car no matter how small amount you buy...I always tell them I am fine unless I do need help with something really heavy, pretty rare when that happens though.

Great scenery Flcrazy. Makes me home sick for South Carolina. I haven't been there for forty years at least.

Its cool to know you've seen this part of the world GG, Boy, when you moved you really went 180 degrees in the opposite direction ,didn't you. Maybe one day I'll be able to visit Arizona and see all the different, beautiful scenery your part of the world has to offer.

Thanks GT, It's a big tourist attraction the first of October when the leaves are at their peak. The Blue Ridge Parkway highway, is well traveled year round.

You got that right Lori, he was a great photographer back when photography was tough. His favorite was a '79 model Nikkon, back in the days of manual everything ! No such thing as auto this, or digital that....lol. I'm calling him in here now to see everyone's remarks. Hope I will still have room to fit into bed with his swelled up head !...lol

Update....,he's smiling from ear to ear..., just took a bow, and said thank you, thank you..,and took another bow ! What a ham.....lol.

10 Nov, 2008

Ham, aye? just hope he doesn't start to "hog" your goy space!! LOL...

15 Nov, 2008

LOL...good one Lori ! Now that you mention it, I might need to keep an I on him.....he's suddenly very interested in the pictures I post and the replies I get ...lol. Who knows...,it may be enough to get him to take the infrared game surveillance camera I bought him last year for Christmas out of the box, and actually take a few pictures with it !

15 Nov, 2008

oh my goodness~~ is he....are you....a techy?

16 Nov, 2008

No we're not, now my son is a different matter..lol. It's a night vision camera that you strap to a tree, it has motion censcors that triggers the camera to take photos when something passes by. It's used alot by game hunters, looking for deer. Though my husband doesn't hunt, I thought he might like to take some photos of the deers, racoon, coyotes, foxes, and beavers we have wondering around out here at night. Seeing as how he has had it almost a year, and hasn't even taken it out of the box yet, apparantly I was dead wrong...lol.

16 Nov, 2008

Tell Hubby to take it out of the box NOW !! lol Mind you I'm only in Dec '08 .. by the time I get up to date I'm sure he will have ... especially with the compliments that come his way !! haha Oh to have this on the doorstep .... sigh !!

30 Aug, 2009

Believe it or not Sue, it's still in the box...lol. I just turned around in my computer chair to make sure I wasn't telling a lie, and yes...there it is. I'm looking at it right now, still in the box !

30 Aug, 2009

Tell hubby from me that England needs him !!!!! lol The thought of what the camera might capture has got me licking my lips already !!

31 Aug, 2009

that just might do the trick Sue. I'll be sure and tell him that a lovely lady from West Midlands is licking her lips in antisipation to see photos from his night camera. If this doesn't motivate him into opening that darn box, then I don't think he's motivatable...lol
