Elephant's Ears

Elephant's Ears

These grow outside my compound, the leaves are one of the few types of leaves from plants that can be used as a wrapping for food cooked in the earthen pit(Pacific style cooking), but now foils are a common use. The root of this plant can be eaten too but hardly nowdays.

My daughter read my responses above and said "Mum, what if these people were vegetarians?" My apologies, people I have to be a bit sensitive in the mentioning of meat, but vegetables too can be added for the Vegetarians!!

Panther ~
What a very thoughtful daughter you have :o)
I'm a fish-eating vegetarian.
In other words, if it had legs I don't eat it. :o)
I accept that some people eat meat, but nevertheless, I think your daughter will fare well in the world, having such a natural care for the feelings of other people.
Do you have a photo of your daughter in your garden ?

Yes Terratoonie she is in the picture in my blog for the Sleeping Giant, the one with a joker round the neck and wearing red.

Panther,

Beautiful Elephant's Ears! How old are these plants? The reason I'm asking is because Alocasia macrorhiza 'Borneo Giant' has leaves that are much larger to 13 - 16 feet long by 6 - 8 feet wide. They have the second largest entire leaf of any plant known in the World. The largest is the leaf of Alocasia robusta 'Sarawak' the leaves can grow to 33 feet long and 12 feet wide. I've read the entire plant can grow to 40+ feet tall. They're the true giants of the Alocasia genus.

Wow very interesting thanks Delonix 1, I am learning more with these shared information. Fantastic!! Actually these have been growing wild outside where I live but I am not too sure for how long. So I will amend the name to Elephnant's EarsThanks so much again!!!

Panther,

These Elephant's ears looks a lot like Alocasia macrorhiza...however, I could be wrong because there's so many species of Alocasia.

Your mean it coud be Elephantocasia???LOL, I just thought that we could add a bit of humour to this one,but its ok if we left it to Elephant 's Ears for the time being. I will try finding out as well. Thanks again Delonix1.
