When I saw Jacque's picture of the spider egg, I remembered I had taken this picture of a black widow spider (female) when I moved here in 2005. This place had stood empty for a while before I bought it. This was on the front covered patio. None inside, Thank Heavens!

Great shot Skippy, I would have been shaking too much to get a clear shot ! A friend at work's daughter in law was just bitten by one three weeks ago, and she was in excusiating pain for 48 hours. The hospital didn't have any of the anti venom, and gave her the wrong pain killers to make matters worse. She had to wait till the next day and went to her regular doctor, who cussed the hospital out and gave her the right type of muscle relaxers to help get her through the worst of the pain. It took two full weeks for all the symptoms to go away. She was bitten in the left arm, bad place to be bitten, being it's so close to the heart. If I ever get bitten by one, hubby might as well shoot me, because I wouldn't survive it. I'm a big baby when it comes to pain...lol.

You are too funny sometimes Fl, but I agree that I don't want to go through what she went through...This one was posing so well, I couldn't resist but she was a gonner 5 seconds later. I will live with just about anything but black widow spiders and rattlesnakes. Both give me the willies.

We have them here too Skippy. They are beautiful as far as spiders go. Like black beads. I've only ever found one in this house and I think she came in on my head as I found her when she fell off. They are usually very shy and like dark, quiet places.

That reminds to be careful when picking up plastic containers . One time I was moving a #20 size pot and felt something squish , looked under to find a female starring at me . I still think it was a male that got smushed . I was so tweaked out for a solid day thinking what if . That is odd for that one to be sitting on that web in so much light . good job
