Yes their smell is wonderful....I like all of it..the hay, the stall clean up, the noise they make while they eat...it all sounds & smells of ancient life. I have plans to set a chair in Flashes stall on a rainy day and just bask in him for relaxation one day soon. :) ~Cat

Awww, they're so gorgeous x33 I also love the smell of horses, it'll stay with me for life. Once you start riding, there's no going back really, is there? There's always a passion for it somewhere.

It is nice to feel their ancient enegry..it is raw and unspoiled...I love the way it feels...it also takes your total focus..so you cannot think of anything else when you are with them...very good space to be in for a little while.

yes i guess im the same with dogs realy.m normaly ok with even dogs that can be funny.trouble is the odd dog that doesnt like me perhaps 2 in my life realy realy hates me.is that the same with horses cat

4 Mar, 2009

No not really..horses are a flight animal...dogs are a prey animal...horses have a very good long memory for danger. They would only hate you if you wanted to eat them..lol..or you had ever tried to eat them. Also the only one that is terribley aggressive in a horse herd is the lead mare and unless you know what you are doing ..you do not want to mess with her. Dogs are a bit more aggresive..territorial wise.
For instance in this photo..if you look at the look in the eyes you can see which the mare is by the look in the eyes...of course I have named them so you know it is the black one Tasha...her eye should tell you that though too...it is very serious in comparison to the two male geldings..on the other hand the stallion is a whole other animal in horse mentality...testosterone run amok....!!! ...They can be quite dangerous without meaning to harm. Ours is still young and is terrbly excitable and wild but a gentle hearted Prince really. Not a mean bone in his body.

4 Mar, 2009

you can see the attitude in her eye.dogs are preditors not prey i think you got mixed up lol .dogs hunt and horses run away.elephant bulls are deadly in must its like testostrone filled male seasen.we we went the isle of white and vissited a horse place.they were very good.had them tiny horses.they had living twin shire horses which is almost unherd of i believe.they also had a very rare russian shire horse.if he wasnt so rare they said they would put him down hes so dangerous.had all mettle bars round his stable.very handsom and musculer with a wavey maine.

LOL..I meant dogs prey on horses as in wolves and coyotes...horses are not particularly fond of any dogs of any kind unless they know them really well and still it is best they keep their distance. We have been working with our stallion since he was 4 months old, lots of hands on, so he is not so bad as that one..he is trainable but it takes a lot of extra work and care with one..and he will never be quite dependable unless we get him gelded. He is more gorgeous every day...He is our Prince Aries...he is to breed with Tasha..should make a magnificent foal...Friend Steven wants it to be a sports horse for gaming...the combo of Aries and Tasha would be perfect for it...

Cat I think you're dead right when you say horses 'take your total focus'. I've always found that. I'm one of life's worriers, but I've always found that you can't worry about stuff when your with horses, as you say you have to focus totally, but I don't find that hard to do, they are so engaging to be with.....

I recognise that look in Tasha's eye.....my dear Flo had that look - she never missed a thing that was going on.....never agressive tho.

NP - I think I've visited those stables on the IoW....I remember seeing the metal bars on the stable walls and remember that in one stable the bar was bent right in and I thought - flippin' 'eck I'm glad I wasn't on the receiving end of that kick!!! Just shows the strength those sort of horses have......

Sometimes horses are nervous of either men of women, usually men, because they've had something unpleasant done to them by a vet - for their own good of course, but they dont know that - usually a man, but these days more women are becoming horse vets.

I remember one horse I used to ride/work with sometimes, called Star, who was a thoroughbred cross. He's the only horse I've met that just generaly didn't like people. He was very well behaved as it happens, not agressive. But he would just refuse to even look at me if I went in his stable and would flinch every time I touched him even tho I was very careful and gentle with him. Very odd. One of the very few horses that I really didn't feel that safe with........

i did try horse riding but i couldnt hold on .i always ended up round there neck lol.i should think a good kick from a horse like that could kill ou sid

When I read what you said about the look in Tasha's eye, I went up for another look...... it really IS a different look from the boys isn't it ? Amazing !
