Alpinia purpurata is the botanic name to these common ginger flowers Arlene, its the red flower that is used in my name picture box. There are two other types of colours these plants have, some come in white blooms and some in pink. I have the plant in one of my earlier pics which has some interesting shared information on the plant itself:-)

~thanks for the info~ I saw the Trinidad and Tobago stand at Hampton Court Flower show near London last year and they had loads of Heliconia and these Gingers in 2 or 3 colours~ i have a couple of pics on my site~ they are gorgeous!
