The first time I met teasel was when I was a girl scout...we made christmas trees out of them..on wire cones, spray painted them silver and then put tiny shiny many colored christmas balls on them...my mother had the one I made for her for years.

We have teasels here, too. The goldfinches love'em.

Catfinch, bet your mom loved it,she probably displayed it every Christmas!
Spritz, I didn't know that goldfinches liked them, I know they like other black thistle seeds. (Sounds like Catfinches love'em, too. :-) If we set out a bowl of teasal with milk on them, do you think we might catch a catfinch.)

~the only trouble with them is that they seed into everything when growing~that's why you have banks of them at the roadside~might need a large one to catch a Catfinch!

Beautiful close-up....you can make little hedgehogs out of them too!

You know Janey you could make little hedehogs out of them...lay them down on their side and put little eyes on them...lol...and yes if you put them in a saucer with milk....a catfinch would appear...lol....this one loves them...milk and teasel seperately I think would be best...not sure about the chewing of them...lol
Weeds...I expect there will a major amount of hedge hogs made of teasel now.......they are hedgehog crazy over in the UK......lol

We have porcupines on this side of the world. Not so cute as hedgehogs but I see potential there too.

is it related to thistles and globe artichokes.if not it looks like it is

NP Hadn't thought about them being related to artichokes too, but I'll bet they are. Don't think I'd want to eat this one.
