Yes, this is the robin I know, too but I wish we had the cute English robins here too. These U.S. robins sing a beautiful song, do the English robins sing too?

The North American robin's song was always the early sound of spring...they have several calls but my favourite is their sunrise salutation...especially if there's rain in the offing.... cheerily, cheer up, cheerily, cheer up, their alarm is a loud (but still melodious) BEEP! BEEP! and their other endearing characteristic is their hunting hop.... they literally bounce across the grass...head bent to the side listening for the worms they love to eat...it's a one foot, two foot, one foot, two foot hop! Had some youngsters bathing in the pond and waterspout this past summer! what a treat to watch! they like to nest above doors and in the rafters of porches and summer houses...they can be a little aggressive if there's too much traffic about when the eggs are hatching...they take the beautiful blue egg shells and drop them as far from the nest as possible.

The nest and porch had no droppings either...they carry that away as well.

Lori, you describe them exactly. You mentioned everything that I love about them. Although they don't migrate long distances, they disappear here in the winter. (They'd have to have wellies to wade through the snow this year!) In Eastern Washington seeing the first robin is an indication that spring is coming. The first robin in the spring is a subject of conversation. Sometimes they come as early as mid-January.
Kmccue, didn't know they carried off their droppings, good bird!
