Russell Page wrote that he never made a garden without this rose ("Education of a Gardener"). So I tried it several times, and each time I felt it just wasn't the rose for a garden with limited space. It is a rugosa and should really grow freely in groups. I have it no more.

I have two of these and have been rather disappointed. The fragrance is supposed to be very strong but neither of mine, while they do smell nice, are not strong at all. My rugosa "Hansa" is much much stronger and a nice a fragrance IMO.
I haven't found that this rose is particularly vigorous either. It is very hardy but I find it a bit spindley. I am going to move mine into a disused corner of my garden and let them do as they wish.
