Combinating roses with sage

I read once that a roses (especially English ones) and sage combo will allways work. It is also good for the rose's health since herbs will keep plagues at a distance.
I've been looking for this pic the whole morning :-) since i wanted to show how the combo looks. They are both growing in a large container at my little garden in The Netherlands.
The rose is a David Austin's one, Ambridge rose.

Looks great! I like the idea of the herbs protecting the tender roses. I plant marigold and coriander to keep moose out of the garden. Suppose this is a similar sort of thing.
