Female bloom with seed pod forming just at its base. Male bloom in the background.

Having trouble loading pics and editing, this is the female flowers on my rex begonia. the larger portion behind the bloom is where the seed is forming. The female has much larger inner 'parts and doesn't lift its face to the light. In the background is a new male flower opening up, no seed pod.

Lovely photo. My Begonia Rex has yet to flower - if it looks like yours I shall be well pleased. P.s. I've had it two years - is there still hope?

Wonderful comments, thanks so much. I feel like i post the begonia everytime I get on, but its so interesting right now.

Shirley, I'm sure it'll get blooming, I give it alot of light and warmth, but nothing direct. I bloom every six months, and I don't use fertilizer or plant food. Is your's getting enough light?

Janey, I knew begonia's generally have both, but this has been a wonderful process to observe. I'm used to viewing larger varieties with two little males and one big female bloom. Removing the males gives bigger show flowers. I find the seed forming on the stem the most interesting of all. It's breeding! I learned some of this from Marksbegonias pages.

It's on a warm bedroom window-cill (just above a radiator) facing directly north, so theoretically, getting lots of light. Perhaps I need to be a bit more patient.

Might even be a bit warm? Does it dry quickly? It might just be uncomfortable, it likes a cool soil. I've a pretty high humidity and keep it on the dry side. Maybe a tray of water and gravel for the radiator to heat? Raise the humidity? That'd be my suggestion. Its been long enough I say to try different sites.
