Dragon Wing Begonia - Begonia x hybrida (Begonia x tuberhybrida 'Dragon Wings')

This is a really beautiful plant for hanging baskets. I have two different colours - one rather pink and the other a little more red.

They're also very hardy in this climate - they survive the heat, the humidity, the sun and they will flower profusely all year long! They're also so easy to strike!

This would be something that would freeze up real fast here, same as the impatiens. Never seem to make it through the winter inside either.

It's amazing to me that plants can survive the harshest of hot, humid summers - when everything you touch is hot - but not cold winters!

I'm amazed that my plants do come back after some winters. The killer thing for them is freeze & thaw cycles....can push them up out of the ground. It's better for the plants if the ground remains frozen for the season!

Our ground bakes hard in the hot summers we get - even with mulching, any trace of water doesn't stay there long. Plants can be incredibly resilient.

Do you have alot of clay in your soil? My backyard seem to be full of it...has taken bags & bags of sand, peat moss, topsoil & compost over the last 25 years to make it the way it is! Parts of it still don't want to co-operate but we're working on it!
