UnKnown Bird ?

I've peered and peered but can't tell! Maybe a chaffinch?

Hello Jacque, I dont think it has the right beak to be a finch but hey, I'm no expert, we'll have to wait for Bonkmister! Wonder if its a Dunnock?

Bonkmister ? lol Spot on Dawn...the beak suggests dunnock,or hedge sparrow.All these different species youre getting in your garden now.All ready for the big bird watch next weekend !

Aye Dawn - Jane in hysterics here . My father used to work for forestry commission and as child summer holidays spent in woods where he d show me all sorts of birds and animals .

Once found a cuckoos egg in hedge sparrow nest and we would sit and watch this small bird feed this monster chick by standing on its back .

Funny, init! Ha ha, me being all innocent didnt even realise what I had inferred. Glad you take it all in good fun. What a lovely childhood you had. You can't beat that sort of education can you. I just wish I could remember everything my Dad taught me. It's like the birds, you can look in books but its not like seeing them and hearing them is it. I've never seen a cuckoo and the sight of the poor sparrow feeding it must have been awesome.

He used to go round in a bright orange land rover which the animals recognised we d sit in the back shaking drums of feed and small muntjac and red deer would emerge and feed from them - memories that have always stuck with me , such a pleasure to gain an animals trust when they often understandably suspicious of us.

What a lovely way to spend your Summer holidays. Like you say, so lovely when they begin to trust you. I remember when I went walking with my Dad when I was little he would tell me which birds were singing and show me foot prints in the snow of the fox and rabbits and identify the different trees.
