When my husband builds something he really builds it... he's an interior/architectural designer, so everything has to be significant. But in his defense, it matches the shingled house, it's heavy enough to withstand most of the hurricane force winds we get up here, and it accommodates a huge number of birds. The cone shape on the post is/was a deterrent against raccoons. It worked for a while and then they learned to climb on each other's backs to reach around it. One gets up there and throws the seed down to the rest... Costs a fortune in sunflower seeds...

Bit like our squirrels then Elke...resourceful creatures...the so called squirrel proof feeders only fox them for a while.They always find a way round.! We feed our squirrel so they leave the birds feeders alone lol
