I should have kept a better track of species - started with a couple a few yrs ago and have gradually added more as I found more.
Now my yard has become a growing field of mixtures of Alocasia & Colocasia babies.
I'm in PQ, outside of Poway.

I'm getting some today (1/29/09)...and I know in Northern S.D. County it is usually much stronger.
Do the Santa Ana's tear the leaves on your Alocasia and Colocasia plants?

Winds come in strong, my red banana (fruitless) over 20 ft gets torn a bit.

That colocasia looks brilliant. I have one but it does suffer with the cold weather. I keep it inside at this time of the year. I live in the Highlands of Scotland.
