Nice photo.

Lovely seedling. I imagine it was ver difficult to get to germinate. Did you have to chill the seeds before sowing?
9 Feb, 2009
Yes I sowed them in the Autumn so they were chilled naturally over Winter and started growing in Spring.. I really hope they've survived, they're in my cold frame at the moment.

I'm sure they have. Trouble is they all look dead at this time of year, even the established ones, don't they?
9 Feb, 2009
Yes it's harder to tell with the small ones though. The larger ones you can see the dead wood pretty easily, like a lot of the ones at my work have this year.
I think this particular one is ok but I fear the worst for my other one. Do you grow them yourself?

Not from seed. I've got a couple in pots but bought them as established plants a few years ago. I haven't got the patience for growing trees/shrubs from seed! Although I've still got a Horse Chestnut(in a pot) that I grew with my boys when they were young. They're 24 and 19 now! But they are easy to grow from a conker and quick getting going so the youngsters show an interest. The acorn which they planted at the same time got neglected after a couple of years as it was too slow growing for them. I think it got left behind when we moved 6 years ago.

This one is up very early.....one of mine is just starting to show above ground with the seed coat still attached. The others will all appear suddenly together the end of next month I expect. They are fun to grow from seed as you never know quite what you're going to get! Last years seedlings are just starting to open up their leaves - pretty little things :-) I just sowed some Cercis siliquastrum seeds today.

This photo was taken last spring sometime, so yours aren't being lazy hehe. Currently it's about 7" high and budding up nicely. I'm pretty sure my green one's snuffed it though :-( ..
Good luck with your Judas Trees, they look really nice in photos.
