Cornus alba 'Sibirica Variegata' (Cornus alba)

I love these, have just ordered two after seeing some in my sisters garden.

I can't plant them until the soil dries out a bit after it got flooded! I've just tipped a barrowload of compost on top of the wet area and I'll dig it in if the weather stays dry for a while.

The two nearest to the stream are Cornus sericea 'Cardinal'.They are orange rather than the red of the C. alba.

The orange is lovely, it sort of 'glows', and it is supposed to have red leaves in the autumn!

Lovely Spritz, i have an orange one too, although i think a different one, mines C. sanguinea 'Winter Beauty' which again the leaves turn red in autumn, and the other one i have is C. Stolonifera 'Flaviramea' which has yellow green stems in winter. I don't think either of mine has varigated leaves though, that would have been nice. i think these will look great planted all together like this. - the streem behind them will give all the backing you need to really bring out that colour on the stems. i have planted one of mine (the green one) at the back of my fairy garden, it shows up quite nicely against the brown on the fence behind. the other is going into the same area, but proberly around the side, so i can put something evergreen inbetween them - proberly one of my new Euonymus plants.

I like 'flavimarea', Angie, but as husband pointed out when we talked about it, this is ths area where the tall grasses grow, so the green stems would be lost against them for most of the year.

yes i know what you mean, i tried mine in several places, it does need to be just right to work, you defo need a dark background to pull it off, green does'nt work, - i tried mine in front of several evergreen green shrubs, and just not the impact. but it does look good against the brown fence. i think the reds and oranges you have gone for will be perfect here, a lovely contrast against tall grasses.
