Hermit Crab.

On a beach in Calahonda, Spain. It took a while for him to come out of his shell but some people are like that.

I was amazed by these little guys when I was on the Island of Huahine in French Polynesia...omg...there were thousands of them in every size you can imagine..what was really wild is when I was sitting on the ground on a bit of ledge from the beach..I noticed like you would notice and ant moving that this little wee tiny wee little shell was moving..it was a wee baby hermit crab and then I noticed that they were everywhere..under my feet everywhere..seemed the whole area was alive with them...was so amazing..of course I was up and trying to make my way out of them ..but they were, like I have already said...everywhere....

I think they are facinating creatures. I've seen quite a few over the years, but only one at at a time, never in the numbers you saw Cat.

i kept some hermit crabs in a fish tank for a while, i put in a number of empty shells too. it was interesting watching them examine the empties and jumping into them. if they dont feel comfortable they come out again and get into thier original shell again.

I used to find hermit crabs in Devon when we went on holiday in the fifties, and we went on the steam trains to Dawlish Warren.
