I agree with you, Jacque, great result for first go, Mike. I just did a search on the RHS Plantfinder, but nothing came up. Is it possible that this clematis might have another name over here?

I'm not sure about this Clematis having a different name in the UK. I bought this one when I was on a garden tour. The host had quite a few plants for sale from his garden. I save all my plant tags and Lavender Splendor is the name that I have for this one. I enjoy this Clematis as I favor single petal flowers especially with roses. I think that the color is great againts the weathered fence. Mike

What a terrific photo. Your colour composition is exceptional...
I have had trouble with names and clematis...I bought one called Duchess of Edinburgh (and we all know who she is) because my friend had one and it was hardy and healthy... When it bloomed it was not like my friends... I thought "first year plant" and didn't think much of it...but it was the same last summer...it has a purple tinge to the petals...and duchess is pure white...So I don't know exactly what I have...it's not doing as well as I would like either..but it shares a trellis with morning glories...and saving the plant tags is a hit or miss thing with me... I've found some tags from plants that are long since extinct in my yard, but can't find some others...I was calling a lobelia a salvia..and didn't realize it til some smart person corrected me. lol.
