I,d say they are Gilli .. they must be hungry to come down to the garden , are they the ones building the nest near you Eileen ?

These are definately rooks and very charismatic birds they are too. It is very unusual to find them in gardens, being birds of the open countryside. They are fabulous birds and you are very lucky to have them. There is a lot of folklore concerning rooks. Not least that if rooks desert a farm, the farm is surely going to die.
