Those heaps by the porch steps cover the wrapped and sealed azaleas. I'm excited to see how they perform this summer.

I hope your azaeleas have survived.

Winter doesn't get them. Spring is the danger. Long as they are covered up, they will not start growing before hard frosts have passed. That is what can do them in.

My azaleas always look dead as a doornail by the end of winter and then they "spring" to life somehow! I do add coffee grinds to them, when they are really looking ragged, and not coming back...but we'll see. What did you wrap the Azalea's with?

I pushed in straw until they were sealed up in a heap and wrapped it in plastic. It'll stay moist and keep from becoming an ice block. Then in spring it'll be humid and warm early, protected from frost. I hope to see nice buds when I finally uncover them. They may still be cold framed a while.
