I've had a lot of people asking what this rose might be and I am not a rose person - so I'm looking for help.

Hi Gilli - I don't know if it's a climber of a shrub because my son bought it for me at a florist. It didn't have any fragrance. Sorry that's about all I have for you.

Hi again Gilli - I've had a suggestion - could it be a rose called 'Memphis Music'?

Saw this when you posted an earlier photo.
Very lovely markings.

It could well be 'Memphis Music' Bernieh. 'Memphis Music' is a miniflora so the blooms would be quite small....about 1.5" diameter. The bush would grow 2 to 2.5 feet.

We could be on the right track here Gilli - the bloom was about that size. I've also had a look at google images for 'Memphis Music' and it looks very similar - the burgundy and pale yellow colours in stripes.

I agree Marguerite it is exquisite and my son occasionally does the most thoughtful things - he's a bit like his father! As for having roses in my garden - no I don't have any. My father was the rose expert and I grew up in a garden full of rose bushes (and I mean full!) - I could never compete with his success. Unfortunately he gave up on the garden a few years ago when he got rather sick - now he keeps asking when I'm going to start growing them.

Well, Bernieh.....I think you have hit the nail of the head with this rose....I can't find any other rose that matches it so exactly....so I think Memphis Music it is... :o)

As soon as I saw this without reading any comments, I thought it was a florist rose. I used to sell them but unfortunetly can't remember it's name. It is lovely, also used to be one called "Black Magic", colour as it's name, quite popular for Valentines Day.

Its a lovely rose Bernieh.....It could be a 'Nancy Renaissance'. Is it a shrub or a climber? Does it have a fragrance?
