the astilbe likes the pond, and the little violas are cheery, the cleome came from last seasons seed, and the cana(upper left) in the pond was an experiment to see if it would do well without soil...
it survived but it didn't thrive...next time I'll put it in some soil.

Hi Di..Yes I knew about the water cana...what I have is a dwarf var but typically I've misplaced the growers tag...should keep a diary, I know but...It has a red flower and grows to about 5 to 6 feet tall...had a tiny piece of the rhizome that I missed when planting so placed it in a niche and hoped for the best... As for the astilbe I had planted it in a shadier spot but the soil needed more work...so when I moved it into sun near the pond it was much happier...As flcrazy says...eventually you get lucky!lol. also I was trying to improve the water quality by putting in a feeder that would help with nitrites.

Hi Marguerite...this is my pond of last season...I had a disaster over the winter and decided to tweak it a little...ended up changing it altogether...lol. so the bridge will be put into service elsewhere....thinking of putting in a dry river bed...just for some variety of topography and will use the bridge for interest there.

Lori, did you know that there are water canna? I have had one in my pond for about 7 years now. It blooms, but nothing like the canna we know...........they're a few little purple flowers. I'll see if I have a pic but I doubt it. The leaves are nice but nothing fancy.
The pink astilbe is gorgeous !
