Sprouts.

Sprouts.

I often sprout difficult seeds by wrapping them in paper towel and soaking them in high heat. As you can see, worked great for sweet pea and lupins (i'm determined to get some yellow lupins in my garden), but not for passion flower. ..I have only had one of these seeds germinate thus far and that was in a peat pellet...
Any suggestions people?

I have passion flower seedlings turning into tall plants.
All in pots indoors.
Will reach my ceiling soon !
They are from a fruit given to me by a friend.
I daren't put them outdoors in case the slugs and snails eat them all !
I'm not doing so well with flowers from smaller seeds.
The seedlings start to sprout and then wilt at the base.
Do you have advice, please ?

I'm sure you know more than I do!
I find peroxide mixed with teh water you put on seedlings helps to cut down on mould which is a bad killer. (10:1 at least mixture).
Also, after transplanting I always lose a few..I'm like a bull in a china shop i guess...lol..
What is your secret with the passion flower? Post a pic of you can...

No special secret. I just planted them, but I did it about last November.
Honestly ~ I have little experience with seedlings.
My passion flower seedlings deserve their own blog.
I'll see if Truffle will allow me time to make one later this week. Lol.

I'm glad gthat you decided to seek permission of one of the bosses TT. I think what Newdfie has is a case of "damping off". In the UK we can guard against this with "Chestnut compound" but I don't know if this is available in Newfoundland. Just try to keep not to your seedlings too wet or too cold once they emerge Newfie.

hi Newfie

~this is one of Hywel's tips
This is my third blog in 3 days. lol
It isn’t a proper blog though – just to say I saw on a Welsh garden program today that if you sprinkle cinnamon on to seed trays after sewing it helps prevent damping off.
I thought I’d share the information. I’ve never heard of it before.
I don’t know if it works but I think I may try it.
