Problem No 1

Problem No 1

I finally decided that my front garden was dry enough yesterday to dig and weed. I spent 6 hours (yes, 6!) on my knees removing mossy growths, various weeds including the one in the photo. It is a nightmare and, coupled with heavy, wet clay, makes gardening very difficult. I have added grit, well rotted manure but it seems to make little difference. The garden looked much better when I had finished but I know neither problem has been solved :(

Is this crab grass? I think that I have this in the front all over the lawn. It's a huge pain in the arrs! It creeps into the flower bed and has long tough roots!! Jeff's brother uses Roundup weed killer not sure if this is appropriate for this weed.

Those grasses are terrible to get rid of. If you only leave just one tiny bit it will grow back. I hope you got rid of as much as you could Gee.

That grass has such an active root system, it is hard work to eradicate !

There is just no way I can rid my front garden of this horrible weed. It is literally everywhere - in the 9-10 years I have been here I must have dug up bags of the stuff and it is just as bad as ever. It tangles itself around plant roots so I daren't transfer anything from the front to the back garden, just in case. So far the back and side garden are clear. The only thing I can think to do is to change the grass to shingle and put membrane down everywhere. I am still considering this plan as its obviously going to be a major upheavel and a considerable expense!
