Ravenala madagascariensis - Traveller's Palm

These Traveler's Palms are about to to trunk. They are in the same order (Zingerberales) as the banana and bird of paradise and gingers.

I'm sure you've seen how large these plants can grow...especially when they develop their trunks.
These plants love water, however, tolerate quite a dry period with no ill effect.
They like full Sun...these trees would be much larger if they were growing in full Sun. And their very large leaves tear easily from the wind.

Yes Delonix I have seen how large these plants can grow, thanks for the info, I will try planting one of these someday and I hope it grows.

If you know someone who has a large plant...you can take side shoots and they root easily.

I tried planting this once but it didn't survive, maybe because the soil was too dry then.
