This is a close up of the Hyacinths on my balcony at the end of March 2009.

Yes, they have lovely scent, as soon as you open the balcony door & step onto the balcony it hits you right away - unless it's windy, of course. I'm a man & scent doesn't usually attract me but the first thing my wife does is lift a flower to her nose - something I've seen women do very often!
There are exceptionable men who breed scent into flowers that have lost it, due to other men having concentrated their hybridizing efforts on size, colour or form & lost scent in the process! I'm thinking in particular of David Austin, of rose fame! most gardeners will have heard of him or perhaps bought roses from his nursery.

Yes, sometimes a flower can look so beautiful, such as some carnations, yet they have no scent at all...
Good to know these hyacinths are pleasing to the nose....
