Milky:

The Plumeria leaves are progressing nicely.

It is best to fertilize in Spring with a high bloom fertilizer and after the flower spikes develop switch to a higher nitrogen fertilizer to stimulate leaf growth.

When they bloom the flower spikes generally come out before the leaves. I have several flower spikes on my trees...then the leaves explode into growth almost overnight.

Milky:

Actually, it's not always the case with Plumeria....sometimes the flower buds will develop after the leaves, especially in younger plants. Definitely, don't give up hope!

One very important suggestion: when fertilizing be sure to let the plant completely dry out before watering again. Plumeria likes a dry period before blooming...it one of the requirement for their initialization of flower buds.

In San Diego many of the trees in the ground receive no water throughout the Summer (sometimes 6 months or longer). They are literally bone-dry and bloom extremely well...better than the ones grown where they receive regular water.

Ok Andy, I shall remember that. I move it around the greenhouse following the sun, so that it gets the maximum it can, and I only water and feed when the Moisture reader in on dry, so there is hope...I shall leave it to bake...and talk to it every day he he he .....It will be worth it in the end, whether this year or next.......

Milky:

One other important cultural requirement for Plumeria blooms, I forgot to mention. It prefers to have at least 6 hours of direct Sun. In a greenhouse, very bright light is perfect.

Oh its getting that Andy............but I do have a layer of bubble wrap as I was worried about scorching?

Milky:

They will only usually scorch when the leaves are right against a very hot greenhouse window. Here they grow in reflected, blasting south-facing exposures which are extremely hot. Of course, they are in the ground.

Thanks Andy....I will give it a try...............
