I planted white and blue delphiniums just behind echinops and liatris. for some reason they bolted to seed and my great colour scheme was without the delphinium component...

I love the way you planted the pink lilies behind the blue echinops.The echinops add a rare blue color to the garden, and it is also an airy type plant with an open structure, so you can always see through it to the flowers planted behind it. I use verbena bonariensis the same way.
