These are not just slow-worms, these are "Essex" slow-worms.

Toto, they may well be "Essex" slow-worms - but it still DOES NOT make them any more endearing !!

You wouldn't say that to their faces Terry.

I like the colour of the coppery one, but would still freak and scream the neighbourhood down if they got anywhere near me!

Aww wish I had some lovely and harmless well the ones up here are - suspect the Essex ones bite especially each other ..ouch Milky .lol

What's wrong with you, Terry, Daisy and Puddles? - they're gorgeous - and don't get taken in by that Toto, even the Essex ones have a lovely nature. Bad boy, Toto, go and stand in the corner.

Look at those lovely, innocent little faces - just think of them as elongated tortoises without shells and legs! There, what's so scarey about them?

Nope, sorry folks you may well all be trying to convince me that they are lovely creatures, but I assure you it ain't working - I definitley wouldn't dare say how horrible they are to their faces, Toto, as I simply couldn't get that near to them !!!

They're fantastic. I'm always coming across them in peoples compost bins and heaps when I'm working! They love a wardm spot, it seems!

Ok Dawn. Thanks for that. Milky can't stand the pace. She is probably down in her compost bin with Ray trying to stretch her slow-worms.

Of course, that's where she is ... Ray will be asleep by now though :)

~I have seen adders locally~although not for a while~ and they look harmless too~one bit a local dog on the eye and the poor thing died~swap for these please!

Your probably right about Ray and as I don't think Milky's a quitter she'll up all night with each slow-worm on the rack individually.
Unfortunately a few dogs die each year from adder bites as dogs tend to harass them. An adder, given the chance, will get away from large animals, including humans if it can. I still feel sorry for the dog though.

At least my grass snakes are harmless :-)

Yes Dawn they are harmless, but although not poisonous they can still and will bite if you upset them. Treat them nice and they are very relaxed once they know you mean them no harm.

Promise I wont upset them Toto :-) It won't happen as I will be running the other way, lol. How's the wasp's nest?

The wasps nest is a little bigger, but not much. I am taking the odd pic so if anything develops I will have a blog to write.

Awww come on you lot! they are just lizards without legs! and definitely the gardeners friend! wonder if they will eat cockroaches? and earwigs? and sow bugs? oh my!

I agree Indy. As you probably know, in the past they did have legs and are now legless lizards and not snakes as many believe. Leglessnes is not such a bad thing, it helps you to relax.
