I had to replace my Acer palmatum as it didn't survive the winter.
I got this one in its place.

They are such lovely shrubs, aren't they! I have another Acer at the other side of the garden which is unscathed...thank goodness!

Hello spritz
It looks as if yoy have your Acer planted in the shade, do they like that? I know they do not like wind. I have a small one in a tub which I had at the top of the stairs leading into the house. It was coming on nicely with lots of new shoots so I thought I would put out of the way of people coming into the office. I am walking down the steps with it and misfooted, droped the pot and broke some of the branches. I have it in a sheltered spot close to the lock side and it is doing ok. Maybe I should move it to a shaded spot once the sun comes out stronger, what do you think?

Sun can scorch them Sophie. They prefer dappled shade - and you are right, they suffer if they get strong chilly wind on them. My new one is facing east and is quite sheltered (see blog).
Poor Acer - fancy being dropped! What a shock for you and it!
