For years I had lots in my garden however we now get groups of badgers passing through and they have now all but disappeared.

Have you got some stones to put in a heap with gaps in betweent so that the slow worms can get underneath.

they seem to like my rotted wood pile it's full of insects and wildlife, ithink they are happy there :o)

They have a lot of cover including corragated steel sheets which they used sun bathe under.

I used to place heaps of wood in a pile in my other garden. Proves a point with what you have said Helenflower

We used to get these in the garden and on our allotment when we lived on the Isle of Wight. They are harmless and it's lovely that you have caught this one on camera for us all to see.
