Licuala peltata 'Sumawongii' - Sumawong Palm

Licuala peltata 'Sumawongii' - Sumawong Palm (Licuala peltata 'Sumawongii' - Sumawong Palm)

Sumawong Palm is native to Thailand and Malaysia. It is considered by many palm enthusiasts and experts to be the most beautiful Licuala palm in the World! They are slow, however, have the largest fronds (to more than 7 feet / 2.2 meters in diameter) of any Licuala species. It is also the second hardiest species taking temps very breifly down to 32 degrees/ 0 degrees C.). Pic taken April 23, 2009.

Bernieh:

It should grow very well here! It's just slow growing.

Bismarckia nobilis - Bismark Palm has a much larger fan-typed frond. They have fronds more than 10 feet/ 3.2 meter across.

And then there's Lodoicea maldivica - Coco de Mer, Double Coconut Palm which has fan fronds up to 33 feet/10 meters in diameter. That's huge!

Do Coco de Mer palms grow in your climate? I know they are extremely rare palms and very ultra-tropical from the Seychelles.

I've only seen 3 growing at Foster Botanical Gardens in Honolulu, HI. What a sight!
