Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana Seedlings

Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana Seedlings (Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana Seedlings)

These are some of my many Royal Poinciana seedlings that will be sold. Some were actually killed in the horrible heat wave we had this week. My unheated greenhouse temps were at 115 degrees F/ 46 degrees C. during the day -- even with a heavy dark shade cloth covering the greenhouse. Mature trees love this heat...seedlings don't.

I think I would die in that heat aswell.

These baby Delonix are looking healthy Delonix1.
I'm glad they survived the heat wave...

Hywel, yes it was pretty bad...I hate when the temps go up to 100 degrees F. / 38 degrees C or more. The heat wave lasted 5 days and 3 days were extremely hot -- around 100 degrees or more. Now, it's much cooler.

Terratoonie, I lost about 12 seedlings to the heat wave. These little ones did very well. I just planted 50 more seeds yesterday though. : > )

They are actually very pretty as seedlings.... :o)
Are the little stones on the pots to stop rot, or to deter bugs ?

Terratoonie:

It is perlite. It helps with good drainage...so the seedling don't rot....which they are very susceptible to, when young.

My Delonix are ignored by snails..Brazilian fern tree is not!

I've never seen a Delonix regia get eaten by snails.

I haven't had a Brazilian Fern tree since I lived in the Bay Area. I did get some seeds from a tree here this past summer, though.

How did it do ?
I might have to pester you on some of what you have tried here.
I just drove by the "Palm Park" in Union City. wow,the Bismarckia is the biggest I've ever seen here. Not like older plants in warmer climes..but for the bay area.
I had one...Gophers took it out within 2 weeks of planting it. That, after two years of growing it up in a large pot. One day...when I can end the gophers-lol.

It grow very fast and well. I have seen large trees in San Francisco, which was surprising.
