The blossom has been super this year, but have noticed a lot of large greenfly!! was hoping the cold winter would have sorted this out.

Lovely.

Greenfly already, Dee! YUK! I must take a careful look.

Yes I already have some and so far only one ladybird spotted, loads of blossom again so think we are in for a bumper crop again........

This tree is so old that although it has lots of blossom, the apples are not worth bothering with. Henry likes them, though!
I just treat it as a blossom tree - lovely to look at...oh and a 'trellis' for a climbing rose, too!

Lovely pic spritz. I really miss fruit tree living up here. They are very rare in a garden.

Is that because of the cold???
27 Apr, 2009
Yep. Too easy to get a late frost and lose the blossoms on some or the season is just too short for others.

Do you have any blossom trees?

Chokecherry and another cherry are pretty common and given out by the state for arbor day. Chokechery is everywhere and does great. It'll be full in one month. There are a few exotics but hard to rely on them making it through winter. There an old neighborhood with lots that is a good place to slip in and get a pic or two. :-)

I don't know Chokecherry, is it one that is only in the USA/Alaska? I am not surprised that exotics aren't reliable!
When you see what died here in -8 degrees, your plants and trees must be VERY hardy indeed!

Prunus virginiana melanocarpa, it is a north american species. I just posted one so you could see, the photo was from my phone last year, so I'll collect a better one when they bloom this year. :-) It attracts the waxwings when they migrate through.

Nothing quite like english apple blossom is there?
19 Feb, 2010
No - I agree! Now I have a clematis as well as a rose climbing through that tree, as well. Can't wait! :-))
