Plumeria.......{Frangipani]

These are the 2 new "babies" that I grew from seed this spring. You can see how very different they are...

Milky:

When Plumeria are grown from seed they grow very differently from the parent that produced the seeds. The flower color can be very different also.
Another interesting characteristic about Plumeria seedlings is when they first flower they may not necessarily be the true color until the 3rd or 4th year of blooming. This is why many Plumeria varieties are grown from cuttings.

Thanks for that information Andy. I think I heard or read somewhere about waiting even longer for the true colours to show, but hopefully they will end up different colours...

Milky:

I learned this information about 10 years ago, when I belonged to the Plumeria Society here in San Diego. This is when there was only about 40 members...now I think there's about 450 members. That's how popular Plumeria trees are in Southern California. So many new varieties now available.

How wonderful Andy.....I dont know if we have a Plumeria Society over here. I have always admired them, and hopefully, I will get to inhale its beautiful bouquet when mine does eventually flower.......

Milky:

I'm sure it will bloom soon. The fragrance is definitely worth the wait. My many trees will start blooming in early June and bloom until Christmas or so.

I have a large Plumeria 'Plastic Pink' variety in the ground that's about 8 feet/ 2.5 meters tall. I'm so disappointed with it...as it doesn't bloom very well for me and doesn't grow very fast. I ready to yank it out of the ground. Maybe I should send the tree to you. LOL! It'll probably do better there.

Patience Andy......talk sweetly to it ....whisper sweet nothings in its ear h a ha ha Well if you do "Yank" it out, maybe you can send me a cutting and I can try................

Milky:

Anytime! Cuttings are very easy to send in the mail...and they don't even need to be certified...as long as the cutting is taking more than 4 feet off the ground.

My 'Plastic Pink' Plumeria is just starting to send out leaves...however, no buds yet. I will try your advice and some fertilizer too this year. I'll inform you of the progress. I'll post an old photo of this plant tonight...maybe you can give me some advice. : > )

I'm glad I posted the photo and received your input. I know quite a bit about plants...however, I can always learn more from another person's perception.
