I dug out my compass garden to let the warm air in. Still easy chance of frosts, but with day temps of 50F, they need to be free to warm up.

Its true, Hywel. But it will go fast now. We had more snow than usual. It's light now at 10:45pm and will get light again at around 4am. Probably wont go below freezing tonight. We go from this to summer really really fast.

That's good. It's more gradual with us. It's 7.45 am here now and it's raining, but the forecast is for sun later.

The fast melt to summer must be quite amazing...
Are there problems in Alaska with flooding, from the water running as the snow warms up ?

My first reaction was 'O my goodness, still so much snow' - then I read your explanation of the thaw. It's chilly here today after a few days of lovely sunshine so hope our summer comes back fast too :)

Forecast is 65F to 35F next few days. And yes, TT, there is sooo much flooding. We call it break up. Everyone gets out their mud boots. There are huge lakes over clogged drains all around town, not real clogs just iced over. It's wild the humidity is up and water sprakling and snow. :-) WHen the snow is gone, it'll be 75F and 45F nights. Start of summer.

That's amazing.
I recall on TV seeing the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and they showed the snow melting and almost instant warm springtime. At that time I thought it seemed not natural that the seasons would change so dramatically, but it seems that actually happens in places like Alaska.
Maybe you'll get a couple of photos of the flooding in town from the snow melt, please, and show everyone coping well. Thanks.

I can't wait Avis. It was almost 70F today and still snow.
TT, I'll get out and get some flood photos after work tomorrow. Today I thought of nothing but getting home, I've been down with a cold, not thinking right. I really need to shoot alot of pics, get a good timeline as summer rushes in. Its really amazing. Things like crocus get cooked. They come up and its 80's for eight hours.

It really is amazing how plants can adjust to such extreme conditions ! Looks like you burnt your fair share of calories digging through all that snow.

It was a task. But just breezed thru, so excited to see the beds. :-)
