Akebia Quinata , this is very much like a Clematis , it,s a climber and has an abundance of chocolate coloured flowers

Amy, if you look at my recent photo of my back garden dog run, you can see my chocolate vine on my obelisk, past the dog run next to my arch.
The vine seems to be semi evergreen in that it can lose its leaves in a harsh winter. Not difficult to keep trimmed back, so okay for your arbour I would imagine, as you would trim it as you would a clematis...

It can grow fast once it gets going.
