When my Dad's garden was full of veg I used to scrump everything. Nothing nicer than peas straight off the plant. Mmmm

LOL..you and me too Dawn ! Dad could never understand where all his carefully tended peas had vanished to ! And I never owned up either LOL

Me too.....Not many of these actually get to the table.....Thankyou all, We are still using the parsnips from last year, from the freezer. Brilliant for roasts............P.S. ALL..........I forgot to mention runner beans they are in the cold frame at the moment.

I know, we were the same. As kids, in the days of hot summers, we would pitch our little tent on the lawn, nic Dad's peas and broad beans and de-pod them in the tent - those were the days. And what about tomatoes straight off the plant, oh dear, my mouth is watering!

How about courgettes Dawn.................scrummy straight from the plant........

Yep, love them too Maureen and young cucumbers - what about sweetcorn cobs straight from the plant, lush, as long as those hairy bits are all removed. lol. I like runner beans fresh too.

Wonderful summer lunch.......A plate of raw seasonal veg, and a dollop of Hellmans Light...........yum yum.............

Yep, all that to look forward too - I'll put Hellman's on the shopping list ready.

Who mentioned Hellmans....Rays favourite ! Oh dear..feel a coleslaw buttie coming on !

Make sure its Lite Dawn, we shall have to watch the calories after that lot ha ha ha ......Bonkers.....Rays a heathen......he wont eat it unless its cooked.......says he's not a rabbit, so he wont need the Hellman , only what I give him he he he ........................

OK, we'll get the lite Jane/Maureen. We need a good summer for everything to thrive dont we. Fingers crossed.

Which farm do you own Milky?
You've just made me feel very nostalgig, although it wasn't my parents who grew anything, it was my great grandfather who gave me love of growing things. If it didn't have nuts and bolts and was covered in grease my father didn't have a clue and my mother only typed.

Thanks All Toto, this patch is not that big, only one side of the garden about 10ft wide, about 25 ft long. The other side of the path is all Strawberry....I wish it were a lot bigger. I would have loved to have worked a smallholding, but Im too old now............My father always grew, and I am the only one of 5 thats has followed his footsteps.........I cant stand being indoors, I have to just keep moving around the garden......

Wow and Wow again I always get excited looking a vegetable gardens, and yours is a picture, thats what I admire about the french they (countryside ones) grow all their own fruit and vegetables, we have taken many a picture of a French veg patch......well done if only our garden was larger!!!!

What do you mean "not that big". It's 10 times the size of my whole garden.

Hush Toto.......dont tell it out loud he he he .......It looks a lot Newfie, but there are only 3 rows of everything, which just gives us enough fresh veg for the summer and some to freeze............Mind you beetroot was brilliant last year and I still have 6 big jars of pickled left, even though I ate more of it as soon as it was cooked..........

Beetroot is one of the few veg I can grow easily, lol. The bought stuff is nothing like your own is it.

I love it as a hot veg Dawn, the taste is beautiful...........Every time I cook a batch, the 1st one is straight in my mouth.........yum.........

You're just like me, I eat them straight away too - they can be a bit hot in the middle though lol. Also best not to eat to much so as not to upset the tummy - if you know what I mean, ha ha. Your soil looks beautiful!

My Granchildren found out last year that if they ate the pea pods nobody could follow the trail to them .. LOL ...

When we were kids and my mum gave us chores (endless they were) the one I didnt mind was podding the peas, lol. It was great, my Dad's garden was wonderful and we (like you) ate fresh veg as it came into season. New potatoes are the best too!

This garden is my idea of HEAVEN. If this was mine, I'd spend all the time outside admiring it (and eating it). The veg patch that I tend is hell to work. A. because it is all very heavy Essex clay (how do you get round that Milky - I'd love to know) and B.I'm only there to work it once a fortnight and its amazing how quickly a buttercup can become 150 buttercups! I love growing Runner Beans because they grow so fast they outrun all the weeds! Well done Milky - I will think of your beautiful veg garden when I'm on my hands and knees breaking up those clay lumps by hand!
