Ferocious! Kind of gives himself away, doesn't he, like British soldiers at one time... Never seen one of these. Thanks, Toto.

Fab pic Toto :)

Thanks all.
Elke. These are quite common over here. They eat the leaves of your favourite lillies and leave horrible big holes in them. They also deposit their eggs/grubs on the uderside of the leaves which then continue the attack. They are not nice to have around.

Thanks Nelke. They are nice to see but very destructive.

In THIS case I think, it´s o.k. to use poison, just under the lilies, before they flower. (otherwise the other insects would die, too,)

Did you squish it after your photo session?

LOL - I must admit I come to GOY sometimes just to smile at Toto's comments... :) We don't have these, as far as I know. Would it help to build a moat around each lily with a drawbridge, portcullis and pots of boiling oil on the battlements?

Should work Elke. It really just seems to be the luck of the draw with these - I've had loads in the past few years, last year being particularly bad but this year, despite checking every day I have not seen one and my lilies are looking healthier than they have for years - just the odd slug hole. I will not be complaicent though, they can still strike.
