Males have blue spots occasionally,Toto. Very pretty

Ours tend to be that goldy-colour. I've never seen one like this! We also get grass snakes in the garden. I'm not so keen on them. :-(

Never seen a slow worm up here Toto but saw an adder once apparently quite common on the Moors.

YIKES!! I hope they don't get down here - there are lots on Exmoor and the Quantock Hills!

Actually very shy Spritz .. will bite over inquisitive dogs or senseless humans . Their first reaction is to try to escape not bite.

That's exactly what I'd be worried about, BB - Henry chases the grass snakes - and mice - and rabbits - and pigeons - and cats - and chickens down the lane!

The one in the picture is a male. The brown, bronze or gold ones are females. I've seen lots of them over the years but never one with such pronounced, blue spots. The photo doesn't show them as well as I'd hoped.
I agree with Bonkers on everything he says about people and adders.
Have you tried feeding Henry Spritz? Maybe he wouldn't need to try and catch everything that moved if you did.

Thanks Jacque, Clarice and Gee.

LOL. He is a stomach on legs, like all Labradors! Once, I fed him and my husband thought I hadn't, so he did too - guess who gollupped TWO dinners! Put his food down, count to 10 (quickly) and the food's gone!

I know. We used to look after a friends Labrador when he went on holiday. I've never seen anything demolish food so quickly.

Lovely photo Toto. My labrador is very greedy too, lol. She's meant to be on a diet but half a chance she's in the pond taking the duck's bread and pasta, naughty Bonnie.

Must just be a Labrador thing.

I think it is - all the ones I know are exactly the same. They are popular round here - four, I think in this tiny hamlet!

Henry insists on coming out with me every morning to see if I drop any food meant for the birds! POUNCE! A peanut - gobble.

9 May, 2009

Well done Henry. Can't afford to waste anything, can we?

Bonnie is just like Henry - sits at my feet when I'm preparing food - just in case something drops and she hoovers up under the bird feeders. I think you'll agree though Spritz, they have a beautiful temperament.

The slow-worm is very good. never seen one with those spots. I took a snap of a female, then: bronce.

10 May, 2009

The females are fr prettier than the male as they range in colour from bronze to, almost gold.
