This is PERSICARIA. Called lance Corporal because of the maroon chevron on the leaves.

Love this shade of green on this cultivar. I only have the variety called 'painter's palette'. May be changing that soon now..lol.

I just discovered today that I have a million seedlings growing in the area where this is planted. I'm going to let them grow a bit and then start transplanting them. The leaves on the seedlings are only a bit smaller than a dime and they already have the chevron mark on them. I didn't cut a lot of my plants back last fall so the seeds went everywhere.

That's my favorite type of plant. The ones you only have to buy once, and can have it growing anywhere in the garden for free. When you finally have more than you want and can give away, it's nothing a hoe can't fix in a matter of seconds.
