Looking forward to getting one of these as we have just created a new raised bed after felling a row of leylandii. I have wanted one for several years now and found a great site called Crocus that have them for sale.I understand that for fruit to occur you need a male and female plant to be planted together. Looks like I need to get two then !! But how do you sex them?

Wendikins - yes, you will need both a male and a female to get the fruit. A good supplier should be able to sell you both sexes.
One word of caution - cats LOVE rubbing against these plants and will kill them by knocking off all the growth buds in early spring. You will need some sort of barrier to prevent this - I use heavy duty plastic mesh bent into a plant guard and tied around the bottom eighteen inches of the plant

Thanks for that Andrewr.
Oh dear ! Jonathan my cat loves to help me when I am in the garden and is sure to take an interest in the new plants when we get them. I will take good care of them once we get them in. It must be a bit like catnip!!
