So ... how was your day?

Two kookaburras sitting on the old iron gate seemed to be having a chat. One would look at the other, then the second would look back!

He he, what a super colour they are!

They were two old men having a chat at the end of the day - it was very funny to watch!

They seem to be real personalities. You couldnĀ“t tell them an "X" for a "U", like we say...

Nelke I've found that many of the group that live around here do have a personality of sorts - two are very timid, one will sit and watch what you're doing, and there's another one that will come in very close to the house and sometimes even sit on the stair railing.

And they have a very distinctive call too do'nt they?

Oh yes they do Bobg - these are also called 'Laughing' kookaburras because that's exactly how they sound.

Are they a sort of ravens, Bernieh?

Nelke these beauties belong to the kingfisher family - they're the largest of the kingfishers and grow to be around 40 - 45 cms tall.

Pretty special picture Bernieh. A lot different to what we see here.

Thanks Adoronron - there's a family of kookaburras that live around here and we hear and see them every day. We're very lucky.
