in here I have three rows of leeks two of beetroot two of spinach used for salads and two rows of carrots this box is 6ft square and 12 inches deep

Hi Pam it is damp course material which is used in the building trade you can get it at B&Q in a large roll at about 16" wide and it stops the wood getting to wet in the boxes, the wood is also tanalised and that being a preservative may get into the soil so also serves as a barrier.

As I said before the boxes are 6x6 ft and 12 inches deep and with linings they cost about £28-00 to make, and the way they are made should last us for many years

It looks as if you have it lined with polythene? Obviously to keep the moisture in?
