yes this is definetly the same shrub as in my garden, the year my nan died my aunty tells me it flowered pink as apposed to white,as never done it before of since, just thought id share that with you, beautiful plant by the way, could you give me a few tips on looking after one?

Grow in any moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun or partial shade prune after flowering by just keeping in shape and trimming the top of all branches to keep to the size you want. In early Spring cut. off any dead or dameged wood. If it is possable when it is young anyway, dead head the flowers.
Take greenwood cuttings in Summer. I would try taking a heal of a green wood branch soon now and stick it in deep in a bed near to the tree, beside taking a few in pots. They often take in the same soil that the tree is growing in and if you dig the depth of your spade put a little peat and sand mix down in the spade slit push in your cutting then press it closed with your heal. Being it is deep in the soil it has a better chance of not drying out too much which often happens in pots in the Summer. You have a few chances then if you desperately want to keep your tree going for sentimental sake. Good Luck.

thanks for info, one thing though, how do you mean take an heal of a green wood branch,i assume it means new growth but how much and do i take leave off etc thankyou

Tear down the small green branch off the mother branch that it has a heal on the base of it Just a slither of the bigger branch rather than cutting it off or snapping it off. Then clean off all the leaves except the top few so that the scars where you removed the leaves will be below ground, the roots then will come out of those scars. Hopefully!!!! A Green shoot means young growth. Not hard old wood. I have not been out to inspect mine its dark now but if there are no definate lengthy new shoots on it you may need to wait a little. I will have a look at mine tomorrow.

Yes take a few now and a few in a few weeks time if they all come you can start a plant sale!. Dont try and replant them until a year this coming Autumn, give them a chance to get strong roots. If you have any rooting powder to dip the ends of the stems in before planting them it would help. but often the less messing and more relaxed about it you are the better.
