It's lovely. If I've got it right, as it gets a bit older the bark starts to peel and looks absolutely wonderful.

I hope it is, Bonkers, I grew it from seed but it's still quite a baby. It got badly clobbered this winter - if you peer closely you can just see the leader cut back in the middle of the picture. Should have taken that weed out before I took the pic, (hangs head in shame)
Thanks, Toto.

Wagger youre talking to champion weed growers in Toto and me ..sure like Toto so small compared to our giants didnt even notice lol

We could have our own competition - you've read about my buttercups, real champions, and I grow bitter cress by the kilo.

What weed? (you learn to ignore them after a while, who cares). Yes, this is the one with the peeling stems, but don't hold your breath, it will take about 7 or 8 years to get to a decent height. Good things come to those who (can) .wait

Thanks for the info, Vincent. I think patience is one thing gardeners all learn. I've grown a dawn redwood from seed - I hope it's big enough to get a tpo put on it before I die!

How dare you ignore my weeds Vincent. As Bonkers say's we grow champions and it's not easy. We've studied long and hard to become the experts we are today and then someone comes along and wants to ignore them. I'm cut to the quick.

Aw, don't sulk Toto - we love your weeds - and Bonkers' too.
22 May, 2009
Sorry Wagger but after the news I got today I'm going to sulk.

What was that then, Toto? Have you been consigned to the compost heap?
22 May, 2009
No I've been living in the compost heap with the slow-worms for a few years now. They don't seem to mind so it looks as though I may have found friends at last.
The news was that I received a phone call telling me that the job I just managed to find which was supposed to be a permanent position is only going to last until October. Oh well, never mind.

What a shame - they obviously don't appreciate what a catch they have landed. Still, their loss will be the slow-worms gain. AND on cold mornings you can pull the duvet over your head and turn over.
Seriously that is tough and maybe another indication of the mess this country is in at the moment. Keep your chin up - we're all your friends as well as the slow-worms.

Thanks Wagger. In spite of it all, I'm looking forward to starting on Tuesday morning.
