Lori:
No. California pepper tree has a pink pepper type seed. We have two species of very weedy Schinus trees in California. They are both non-natives.
Schinus molle - California or Peruvian Pepper tree...which is native to Peru and Schinus terebinthifolius - Brazilian Pepper tree which is absolutely horrible! It's roots kill other plants by exuding toxins. It's a tree that is almost impossible to kill once it's established and pops up everywhere. This tree has taken over big areas of the Florida Everglades also.
Grevillea robusta - Silk Oak is another problematic tree also.

Nice to see flowering tree's that bloom together. Makes a great scene. Now plant alternating Jacaranda with a Coral tree species that flowers at the same time..in a long row. WOw!

There's actually many coral trees in this area, also.
Very close to this park there's a gigantic Erythrina falcata which is spectacular when in bloom. This is the photo.

I have two black walnut which have the same mechanism to reduce competition. The substance (Juglone) is excreted by the leaves, nuts, roots, wood and bark. There aren't many perennials which can thrive in the shade (or even nearby) a black walnut. For that reason, as well as the mess the nuts make in the autumn, I'm thinking of removing the trees.

I remember black walnut well. When I lived in the San Francisco I had a large one in my back yard. It was such a messy tree. I did have large Alocasia macrorrhizos (Elephant's Ears) under the tree. It did very well under the tree...that was about the only plant that grew well under the black walnut tree.

California pepper...is that a source of the seasoning, (sneesoning!) lol. I've never seen a pepper tree before.
